Fancy some music you heard on someone's MySpace? Or you want DJ Test's MySpace music player on your Live Spaces?

First..

Get the Media Player on your Space, Click here to learn how to...
Place the Media player where you want the MySpace player to be on your space and save the layout.

Then..

Go to a myspace site whose music you like. For e.g. www.myspaces.com/tiesto or www.myspace.com/nirvana . I am choosing Nirvana.. (I love both btw)

Okay,

So, we are on www.myspace.com/nirvana and you can hear Kurt cobain straight away!
Now, view the page source. In IE7 it is.. Page >> View Source, Internet Explorer (IE) 6.. it is View >> Page Source.. and similar for Firefox, just search for it if you can't figure this out.
Now you get a lot of messy code open on your note pad.
Search for the term lad
You will see a code similar to this around that term:

Set Display mode to None
Check the Automatically start playing the video or audio clip when people visit my space.
Click the Save button.
Preview your space and listen to the Myhspaec player playing on your space!

Note:- You can get the music of any MySpace site by carring these steps out on other pages.. Even you own page! (Better option than hosting on Google or filehut? You get the playlist feature as well!).

Get a Second Media Player on your Space

For the moment this tutorial is being put on hold. Please do not try it.It doesn't work anymore.

If you get two media players on your space, you can use one to play music or videos and you can use the other one to display your friends map guestbook, flash clock or some flash file. Try Media Player Hacks to see view more ideas...

Before you get started!

Make sure you have got a media player on your space already, using this method. (Click here)

Now,

To get the second media player...

Log into Passport and Edit your Space.
In the Address bar of your web browser add the text “ &powertoy=musicvideo ” to the end of the displayed URL.

For e.g.

Click the Go button next to your web browser address bar.
Once the page has finished reloading, click on the Customize tab in your Space.
In the Modules drop down menu in the Customize tab, click on the section where it says Modules and under subsection 'Others' there should be an Icon for PowerToy: Windows Media Player click on it and then click the Save button.

Online TV

Get Streaming TV onto your Space through your Space media player.

First,

You will need to get the Space media player. Click here to learn how to.

Then...

Click here to go the Online TV Channel List.

Right Click the Channel you like and select 'Copy Shortcut' or 'copy link location'.
Paste this link (mostly be a .asx link) into your Space Media Player URL field.
Tick the 'Auto Start' option and set the 'Display Mode' to 'Full' if you like.
Click the 'Save' Button & Preview your Space.

Done!

You now have online Music/Video streaming 24/7 on your Space.

Using Google Videos on Live Spaces

Google Videos is a website where users upload thousands of self-made videos and other content. It is like blogging for Videos and 'am sure you will find something that will meet your needs.

First,

You will need to get the Video player for Google Video gadget...

Click here to get it onto your space
Install and place the Google Video Gadget on your space and place it where you want it to be. A central position on your space will give the best result.
Go to http://video.google.com/ and select or search for a video you like.
Select a video, it starts playing and you will notice on the right hand side there is a Email-Blog-Post to MySpace Button.
Click on it and then click on the link that says 'Embed HTML', a code will be given to you. Copy this code.
Paste this code into the Google Video gadget that you installed before.
Press Save.
Preview your space and you will see that you have Google video on your Space.

Note- Play around with the position of the Google Video gadget until you think it is the best size and position for your space.

Not happy with this method? Why not try the method below which uses the spaces media player to play google videos!You will need to get the Space media player on your Space first. Click here to learn how to.

Go to http://video.google.com/ and select or search for a video you like.

The video starts playing and you will notice on the right hand side there is a Email-Blog-Post to MySpace Button.
Click on it and then click on the link that says 'Embed HTML', a code will be given to you. Copy this code.

Open notepad (Don't ask how!) and paste this code that you copied in the step earlier.

There is a lot of junk in this code and we need to get rid of it.
Search for http in the code and delete all that comes before it.
You will be left with a long line of code after the http . Search for the first " that comes along and delete everything that comes after it and the " itself.

You will be left with a code like :

http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=6175993228065451818&hl=en-GB

Now, don't go mad yet. Go to www.tinyurl.com and get a tinyurl for it.

I got : http://tinyurl.com/zfzr50

Now modify this URL http://tinyurl.com/zfzr50 to http://tinyurl.com/zfzr50#.wmv , that is, add #.wmv at the end. (The tiny URL may be different in your case)
Click here to see a previous tutorial explaining this method a little more clearly if you are having difficulties, that is.
Now take this modified URL and paste it in your media player and click 'Save'.

You got Google working on Live Spaces ;-).

Converting URL's to Acceptable Formats

This tutorial is useful if you want to:

Convert funny looking media URL to acceptable formats so that you can lay them on your Space media Player
To shorten Long Media URL as Space media player does not accept them.

Check list:

First, you should have the Space media player.
Also you should know what is a URL. Click here if you aren't familiar with the term.

There are many sites that give you fancy long URL codes for media files that you would like to play on your space. But MSN Spaces with strict filtering doesn't allow certain formats and long URL's.

Take for example : http://videocodes4u.com/ or http://www.videocodezone.com (There are many others, Google to find more)

Select the video you like..

I selected : Nelly - Grillz

Scroll below and you will notice that they provide a big code.
Look for 'http:...' code line after a 'src='.
For Eg. over here it is : http://videocodes4u.com/video/file_45953.asx

If you try putting this in your space media player it may or may not work depending upon the type of code and also the length.

There is a simple way to get over this problem, it is plain genius.

Go to tinyurl.
Convert the video or audio URL that you have into a tiny-url. ( Follow instructions on tinyurl, it is quite easy)
I got http://tinyurl.com/j5cr3

Now...

Add '#.wmv' at the end. so it is http://tinyurl.com/j5cr3#.wmv (this link of course will be different in your case this is just an example).
Put this new url that you made into your space media player and click 'save'.
Done!

Preview your space and take great pleasure in the fact that you just cheated the system to play a media file and also on the fact that you learnt it on Hack MSN Spaces. So link it!

Note: This is a general procedure only, some codes from other sites may not work and you may have to hunt for the URL in a jumble of codes.

Remember the Flash Audio Player? Well if you didn't get it before you sure will want it now.

Choose from a variety of themes and sizes...

Just click on any of the skins below to download a .zip file.
Open it and then upload the .swf file present in it to the same place you uploaded the mp3player.wmv and the mp3player.xml file. (Click here to see the Flash Audio Player if you don't know what I am talking about)
Get the URL of you new uploaded skin and put in the URL field of your space media player.

Click 'Save'.

Done! Flaunt your new player now... ;-)

Flash Audio Player with Playlist

With a Flash Player in your Space Media Player you can...

Play Audio files on your space (no Video).
Play multiple songs by creating a playlist.
Give visitors a view of your playlist and a select option.

Checklist :

Songs or Audio files in an accepted format [.wma or .mp3] and on your computer hard disk.
Songs Should be uploaded onto the internet through a hosting place and their individual URL's must be got. Click here for hosting places to upload your music or try the Audio search to get MP3 URLS's
An understanding on how to open a file in a text editing software like notepad.

Now to more important matters...

Go to http://player.poqbum.com/ (Sign up or sign in as an anonymous user)
Choose a player from the list of available flash players under different categories and click on on the radio button and press Submit.
Your player shows up along wiht URL fields.
Enter the URL's of your song and your song title and click on Get Code

The page will refresh and you will be given with a code. Copy this code!

For e.g.:

Paste this code in a HTML sandbox and press Save

Click here to learn how to get the HTML Sandbox Powertoy onto your Space. If you are already using it for your banner or for some other reason, Add 2 or more HTML Modules

Preview your space and you will see you player and your music playing!

Adding Banners | Flash Animations | Links

First , Make sure you have got the media player and have read and tried out the Add Multiple song | playlist tutorials.

This tutorial will help you add things such as Banners and Flash files on your media player. [3 parts]

Part 1 : Adding a Banner

Part 2 : Adding a Flash Animation | Games

Part 3 : Putting links and other things to the media player

Part 1 : Adding a Banner to a Multiple Song/Video Playlist.

Putting a Banner into your media player [This is similar to making a playlist but with a slight change of code ]

First create a banner of size 32 pixels high by 194 pixels wide and host it online. Learn more about image hosting and getting image URL here.

Then Open MS Notepad

Copy and paste the code below into the notepad [Ctrl+c - Ctrl+v]

Now replace THE URL OF THE MUSIC/VIDEO FILE with the URL of the song. You can host your songs on many hosting services and get it's URL or the www. address.
Also you can Google for videos or audio files already on the internet and get its URL, Click here for more hosting options.
To add more songs and banners to the play list , copy the code from <ENTRY> to </ENTRY> and make the necessary changes in the URL and Names of the song. For E.g. see Picture below :

Save the file [on the notepad] as mylist.mp3 or whatever type of file you put in the play list and choose All files as the type of file and Encoding as UTF-8.[see picture below for a better understanding]

Upload this file "mylist.mp3" to a hosting service. Click here
After uploading , you will be provided with a URL address. Paste this address into the window media player module.
make your Player mode to 'Full'
Click Save.
Done !!

Part 2 : Adding a Flash Animation

Click here to get Flash URLS [or]
This can be got from either Making your own and hosting it somewhere online or Google for Flash animations. E.g. see Flashiness. Right Click them and get their URL's or Click on View >> source. A notepad containing the Code for the whole website appears. Search for .swf in there, Leave it if you can not do this. Its for advanced users only.
Put that .swf url into the URL input area in the Space meda player. MSN Spaces allows flash files to be played in the media player derectly.

Making a Playlist

Multiple songs & Videos to your Space Media Player.

This will enable you to add more than one song on your Space Media player. Don't have one ? Click here for more info...

You can use it to create a play list for both your audio and video files.

Open MS Notepad
Copy and paste the code below into the notepad [Ctrl+c - Ctrl+v]

Replace NAME OF MUSIC LIST with the name of the Music list. [E.g. My Playlist or My Songs]

Now replace THE URL OF THE MUSIC/CIDEO FILE with the URL of the song/Video. You can host your songs on many hosting services and get it's URL or the www. address.
Click here for hosting options. Or you can do an Audio search to find Music URLS.
To add more songs to the play list , copy the code from to and make the necessary changes in the URL and Names of the song. For E.g. see Picture below :

Click Save.
You can use this method to add multiple videos as well. Just host the videos online [In the same manner as songs], get thier URLs. Instead of .mp3 or something it will be .mpeg or .wmv.
Done!!

Note:

This method can be used to overcome the problem of long URL'ed songs not playing on Space media player.
It is necessary that you carry out each step carefully. It worked for me and it should do for you to. Any easier than this and it will lose its essence.
